| Heroes Of Might And Magic V:  Heroes of Might and Magic V is the next installment in the venerable and long-standing Heroes of Might and Magic series. Heroes V was released in May of 2006. It is the first time in the product's history that it is being developed by a company aside from New World Computing and 3DO, the publisher. It is the Russian company, Nival Interactive has the main responsibilities for developing Heroes V and its expansions, overseen and published by the world-renowned French game developer, Ubisoft. In accordance with this new genesis of the game, Nival have also developed an entirely new universe, one that is so diverse and different that it is likened to a mythology. The highest beings of the Heroes of Might and Magic 5 universe are Dragons, who are the basis of religion, beliefs and cosmology in this new world. Each town adopts its own beliefs which are influenced by its interactions with other races throughout history. The six towns that will appear in Heroes V are the humans, Haven, the demons, Inferno, the necromancers, Necropolis, the dark elves, Dungeon, the wizards, Academy, and the elves, Sylvan, with the dark elves being the new addition to the series. The game itself will be beautifully rendered in 3D, another advancement not seen in any other previous Heroes game. It consists of at least 90 different creatures, 14 in each town. A different set of 6 magic schools live up to the name of 'Magic', while the Dynamic Combat System provides a faster option in battles. There are 6 campaigns which, in total, have over 30 missions which further explore the history behind the towns. Promising to take the genre of strategy gaming to a whole new level, Heroes of Might and Magic V has all the necessary elements of an addictive, competitive, and highly successful game. Boasting 5 different multiplayer modes, both online and offline, it is a game that can be played for hours alone, or with a host of friends, via a LAN, or over the internet in a tournament. With crisp 3D graphics, a completely new storyline, and scores of new features, Heroes of Might and Magic V is the complete fantasy game. Game Profile Heroes V is being developed by Nival Interactive with some assistance from French Game Publisher Ubisoft. The current release date is scheduled for mid-late May 2006, and will follow in the same genre as its predecessors, maintaining the Turn-Based Strategy Engine in a Fantasy setting. | Heroes Of Might And Magic IV:  Heroes of Might and Magic IV Overview Heroes of Might and Magic 4 is radically different from Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Some of the major differences are: 3D perspective on the adventure map and on the battlefield, heroes now take part in battles along with their creatures, six towns with standardised graphic layout, no more creature upgrades, requirement to select between creature dwellings, addition of potions, heroes of the same type are identical, different primary and secondary skills system, more spellcasters among creatures, schools of magic are aligned with town types, creatures can walk on the map without heroes. Clearly, the intention has been to make a unique game, not a bigger and better Heroes 3. Heroes 4 was obviously underfunded - the game release was dellayed significantly, campaign scenarios only feature drawn pictures which often repeat between different campaigns, and the multiplayer feature was implemented only after the game release. Many fans were severely disappointed by Heroes 4, for many valid reasons. It caused a noticeable decline over the entire online Heroes community. The game has many great innovative features and a new graphics style. Each town type is quite unique from the others, having its own strengths and weaknesses. The game didn't become a major hit, but it is fun to play. Heroes 4 campaigns offer surprising philosophical depth compared to all previous Heroes of Might and Magic games - you can browse the campaign scenarios below to get a sense of this. Much of the story happens inside the campaign maps, so scenario descriptions and narratives are a mere overview. Among the most notable strategic developments are: Choosing between two creature dwellings - both dwellings can be built only for level 1 creatures, from there up you'll have to make three choices from three pairs of creatures - on levels 2, 3 and 4. This way two towns of the same alignment can be very different. Heroes participate in combat - barbarian can become a creature-slaying machine, while a powerful mage can become an easy target without combat training. Heroes can be killed in combat. Towns can resurrect them. The enemy can capture defeated heroes and hold them imprisoned. You will then need to capture their town to rescue your hero. Heroes no longer have attack, defence, spell power and knowledge. Instead they learn primary skills, and then secondary sub-skills. There is great variety of skills that can turn your hero into a powerful battlefield unit, a great mage, a thief who can sneak past creatures on the adventure map, a governor that increases income and population, a general that boosts creatures' fighting abilities, etc. Towns now bring less income and there isn't a capitol building that generates lots of gold. Fortifications no longer boost creature population. Creature population happens daily rather than weekly. Creatures can wander the map, collecting resources and items and engaging in battles (but locations such as mines and towns can only be captured if a hero is present). Each creature has separate ratings for speed in combat and travel distance per turn on adventure map. Hero chains are impossible. Caravan structure can be built in towns to bring in reinforcements from other towns and external dwellings - arrival time will depend on distance. Caravans cannot travel blockaded paths. Also there's a neat button that lets you purchase all creatures in a town with one click. |  The Game begins with the Nameless Hero thrust into the barrier, and soon afterward befriended by Diego, one of the Shadows from the Old Camp. After the Hero has joined a camp, he is sent to the Swamp Camp to aid a ritual that is supposed to destroy the barrier. The Hero has to reclaim a focus stone for Y'Berion, leader of the Swamp Camp. Afterwards, he must help another high-ranking Swamp camp member gather minecrawler secretion to help the novices contact the Sleeper. The Hero heads to the Old Mine and kills a Minecrawler Queen, securing enough secretion in the process. Afterwards his faction awards him with a promotion. Next, the Hero must secure an Almanac that is needed for the invocation, from a band of Black Goblins. Finally, the ritual is ready to commence (thus begins chapter 3). The ritual fails, and the hero is sent to the nearby Orc Cemetery to try and figure out what happened. After his return, he is sent to gather healing herbs for Y'Berion, who is ill. The Hero is unable to help him, and Y'Berion dies. Cor Angar takes command of the camp and sends the Hero (along with the focus stone and the Almanac) to the mages at the New Camp, to help in their escape plan. The water mages plan to bust out of the barrier using huge amounts of ore to power the spell to free themselves; they, however, require the 5 focus stones to be able to do it. The Hero is sent to gather the remaining four focus stones. At each of the locations, one of the Hero's friends helps him. Milten (Fire Mage in the Old Camp) helps him at the Stonehenge, Diego (Shadow in the Old Camp) at the Troll Canyon, Gorn (Mercenary from the New Camp) at the Cloister Ruin and Lester (Novice of the Swamp Camp) at the Mountain Fortress. These four had forged a pact to help the Hero in his quests. After the focus stones are secured, Saturas (leader of the Water Mages) wants the Hero to perform one more task - to summon other mages inside the Barrier, to help. At this point, the Hero is able to acquire new armor again. However, tragedy has struck! The mine controlled by the old camp has collapsed when the diggers breached an underground river. Gomez, leader of the Old Camp, used the ore from the mine to trade with the king. With his ore gone, he knew he would lose his position of power within the barrier, so he plans to attack the New Camp and secure their mine. The Fire Mages disagree with Gomez's plan and in a fit of rage Gomez slaughters all the Fire Mages (except Milten, who managed to escape) and marches on the New Camp. The Hero is deemed a traitor, and cannot enter the camp any more. If the Hero joined the Old Camp, he is now able to join the New Camp instead. The Hero must now seek the elusive 13th mage, Xardas, who has turned his back to the other mages to study the Dark Arts. Unfortunately, he lives in a huge tower deep in the Orc Lands. After defeating his three guard golems, the Hero meets Xardas. Xardas sends the Hero to seek a renegade Orc shaman, Ur-Shak, in order to be able to peacefully enter the Orc Village (which guards the entrance to an ancient temple). The hero is sent to the Free Mine to get the help from an Orc there. Unfortunately, the Free Mine is now under the control of the Old Camp. Gorn helps the Hero in his fight. At this point, the Hero is also able to get Wolf, a mercenary from the New Camp, to make him a special armor from minecrawler plates. Afterwards, the Hero proceeds to make the artifact required to get peaceful admittance into the Orc Village (an Ulu-Mulu). The Hero battles against five undead Shamans to proceed further into the temple, but is unable to defeat the 5th. Xardas speaks of a magic sword, Uriziel, that the hero must get to progress further. In order to power up the sword, the Hero must trick the Water Mages, and use the mound of ore stored in their camp. Afterwards, the whole New Camp will consider the Hero a traitor. Uriziel can be turned into a magic Rune, if he is a mage. Equipped with the finest armor (found in Xardas' old tower) and weapon in the game, the hero enters the temple to finally defeat the Sleeper. He succeeds in doing so, but is buried alive once the temple begins collapsing. The Barrier, however, has been destroyed. A great part of the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the possiblity to modify it: Rockstar claims to have left important game data files unlocked and in text files as opposed to hard-coding them in the game. Although Rockstar lists "player modifications support" as a feature, it's safe to assume that Rockstar will not be providing any game editors with the game, and we can expect to be able to import additional player skins, probably in the form of clothes. Player models are at the moment split into around 10 different pieces, with two of each for different fitness levels. As such, player skins as seen in GTA Vice City are unlikely, unless we are provided with a custom slot with a single static mesh skin. Bear in mind that this is simply speculation at this point, as nothing solid has been confirmed yet.
It was decided that the PC version of San Andreas will not have an inbuilt 2-player mode as "the dual keyboard and mouse set up proved too unwieldy for players and didn't work with the PC version of San Andreas' greatly improved free camera mechanics.
